"After I had the American Aviation intercooler system installed I ran some performance tests, and the differences were truly dramatic.
Climb increased by about 200 fpm, and engine temps stayed within normal limits. I found I could hold 120 knots right on up to 25,000 feet.
I also saw a 10 knot speed increase on the same 30 inches/2500 rpm power setting, while fuel consumption dropped two gph per engine.
Another advantage of the intercooled engines is enhanced safety. Heat is the greatest single enemy of aircraft engines, and reducing engine temperatures is bound to keep them running longer and more reliably."

"Having been a Duke owner and pilot on and off since 1974, I have always been impressed with the quality of workmanship and systems of the airplane.
However, the performance, although better than most piston twins, always seemed a little weak considering the amount of horsepower the airplane has. Upon learning of the American Aviation ULTRAcooling System, I immediately began investigating the effect intercooling would have as it applied to the Duke. All the information I gathered pointed to the fact that intercooling would improve performance and reduce operating temperatures.
My FBO did the installation; and upon inspection of the components, I found them to be high quality and very professional looking. I have since flown the plane approximately 25 hours and am very happy with the results.
Performance is greatly improved in all areas. Takeoff roll is brisker and shorter. Cruise climb is a steady 1100-1200 fpm and remains constant through flight level 200. Cruise speed is improved approximately 14 knots at a even power setting. I can now easily climb to flight level 230 and cruise at 226 knots with the cowl flaps closed and cylinder head temperatures in the middle of the green.
The ULTRAcooling System, in my opinion, is a fantastic improvement to the airplane, and I highly recommend it to other Duke operators."

"I have owned and operated three B-60 Beechcraft Dukes. My current aircraft was fitted with American Aviation's ULTRAcooling about two and a half years ago and I wouldn't consider operating a Duke without them.
Being based in Arizona, I am faced with high ambient temperatures much of the year. I have experienced the following changes in performance since installing the intercoolers:
  • Substantial improvement in climb performance. (300' to 400' per minute increase)
  • Much cooler engine temperatures - no longer temp-limited in climb. Engines run cooler in both climb and cruise.
  • Much improved take-off and climb in hot conditions.
  • Full cruise power available at higher altitudes.
